New swimming pool owners are often daunted by the task of maintaining the pool that lies before them, but by learning a few pool basics and familiarizing yourself with the basics of pool care, caring for your new pool will be an easy job.

Finding Pool Care Information

There are plenty of resources for new pool owners to utilize to learn about basic pool care and maintenance.

Pool dealers and suppliers

It’s their job to know all about pools, and pool dealers and suppliers are happy to teach you how to care and maintain your pool. They are an excellent product information resource as well. Pool suppliers know the different pool product and chemical choices available, and they’ll be happy to work with you to find the right one.

Pool contractors or installers

Again - it’s their job. Many pool installers are either maintenance crewmen themselves, or work for companies that maintain a separate pool maintenance crew.. They are usually pool owners, too, so pool contractors know about basic pool care as well as other, less thought of tips and tricks.

Pool owner’s manual

Your pool owner’s manual is designed to tell you all you need about maintaining water balance, adjusting chemical usage, and how to troubleshoot problems. The manual that comes with your pool will speak specifically about your system, so it trumps any general advice found elsewhere. Pool owners with alternative systems and newer pool technologies should consult their manufacturer’s instructions first to avoid voiding warranties.

Online pool resources

Between wiki sites built on the average knowledge of users, swimming pool manufacturer’s sites, and sites devoted to swimming pool information, the internet has the answer to virtually any pool question. A word of caution, however - get your information from well noted sources and sites recommended or supported by swimming pool industry leading manufacturers. They will have the most reliable information.

Learning how to maintain your new swimming pool may seem overwhelming at first. As any pool owner will tell you, however, caring for and maintaining a swimming pool is not so hard once you are familiar with basic pool rules. The best way to learn is by doing and once you have, pool maintenance will become second nature. Familiarize yourself with your pool and its unique systems. Take advantage of the wealth of information available from pool suppliers, pool dealers, installers and other industry professionals. And when in doubt, don’t be afraid to give your pool dealer and/or installer a call. They’ll be happy to hear from you and happy to help.
